The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) has been operating since 2012 under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General. SDSN mobilizes global scientific and technological expertise to promote practical solutions for sustainable development, including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement.

The SDSN Youth is an initiative of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). It was launched in 2015 with a mission to empower youth globally to create sustainable development solutions.

At SDSN Youth, we empower young people to take meaningful action on the Sustainable Development Goals. By joining our global team, you will be working with a diverse and exceptional group of individuals with a variety of cultural, religious and political backgrounds, committed to sustainable development.

SDSN Youth is a network of 650+ member organizations based in more than 85 different countries. SDSN Youth has more than 140 team members (staff, volunteers and interns) working in more than 30 different countries across 20 Regional/ National networks.

Roles & Responsibilities

SDSN Youth’s Fundraising team is key to ensuring the future sustainability and growth of SDSN Youth. We are looking for a Project Officer that will drive fundraising efforts at SDSN Youth. You’ll use your problem-solving skills to understand potential donors, grant administrators, and partners’ needs; and understand how our teams can meet their needs. You will seek funding opportunities from supporters, and nurture existing relationships with current supporters, allowing us to work together to achieve our mission of empowering youth globally to create sustainable solutions.

You will be empowered to build the fundraising strategy and implement it with a team. You will work with various internal stakeholders in order to gather data for your fundraising efforts. There is an opportunity to build out a larger team.

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with Fundraising Project Officers from our various teams, to understand how our programs and networks can align to their needs, for example in the form of 1-1 fundraising, grant applications, or partnerships.;
  • Identify and impact strategic partners to continuously grow SDSN Youth
  • Identify key growth opportunities



Job Qualifications

The Growth & Fundraising Project Officer will be someone who has experience in program growth, sponsorship or other financing-related roles. They will be someone who possesses impeccable organizational, communication and problem-solving skills, working in a team in order to maximize SDSN Youth’s internal performance.

The G&F Project Officer will be someone who:

  • Has outstanding communications skills, ability to articulate value
  • Has outstanding problem solving, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Can demonstrate an understanding of SDSN Youth and the value we provide
  • Be a proven team player with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to coordinate and manage workload across several projects/teams.
  • Is responsive, and able to manage regular communication with the team and with partners - including after-hours conference calls, as the network spans 10 different time zones.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Candidate MUST have experience in fundraising, sales, investment or product related roles.
  • Candidate MUST demonstrate a reasonable understanding of SDSN Youth’s mission.
  • Candidate MUST have a reasonable understanding of the SDGs.
  • Candidate MUST have great communication skills, with the ability to communicate value both written and verbally.
  • Candidate MUST feel comfortable with high-responsiveness (email) and frequent having phone calls with potential donors.




Preferred qualifications:

    • The candidate possesses an excellent command of the English language, including writing, speaking and listening.
    • The candidate is able to demonstrate that they have the time and resources to commit to this role – candidates with too many overlapping commitments will be exempt from running for this position.

    Commitment

    Total Weekly Hours:

    • 10+ hours per week (minimum)

    Conditions:

    • Duration of Position: The first term is 12 months in total, with a 2 months trial period in the beginning. However, subject to review of work performance, this position may be extended on a 12-month basis.
    • Reporting: This position reports to the Global Coordinator
    • Compensation: Voluntary
    • Travel: This position may require some domestic and/or international travel.
    • Training: All Project Officers are required to complete all SDSN Youth online induction courses, including team training.
