Global Schools (GS) is an initiative led by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network in support of UNESCO’s Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) for 2030 Roadmap. The Global Schools Program (GSP) is the flagship primary and secondary education program of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). GSP’s mission is to transform learning and give students the values and skills to succeed in an increasingly complex and challenging world. GSP believes teachers are crucial in the learning process, and provides teachers with free tools, frameworks, and training to teach sustainable development in the classroom; improve student skills; introduce the use of new pedagogical approaches such as active-learning and student-centered teaching methods; and improve the overall quality of education.
Project Officer, Social Media is a key position within the Global Schools Communication Team. We’re seeking a well-organized, self-motivated and creative individual to support overseeing our social media channels on Linkedin, Instagram, and Facebook.
The primary responsibilities of Project Officer include:
- Craft and schedule content for Global Schools social media platforms to amplify Global Schools’ activities and objectives (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook)
- Support in providing timely and relevant viewership reports to ensure goals are met in terms of social media communications.
- Monitor our social media channels and communications inboxes to ensure responsiveness to reader questions and comments.
- Support in the creation, development, and implementation of social media campaigns to increase Global Schools’ social media followers and newsletter subscribers.
- Contribute creative ideas to grow the quality and reach of digital distribution efforts via articles, newsletters, and multimedia content.
- Assist in the development and implementation of communications strategies to build and maintain a vibrant Global Schools online community
- Monitor the Education for Sustainable Development space, seeking videos, images, infographics, news, etc., that can be featured on the GS website and social media channels.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent command of the English language, including writing, speaking and listening.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a proven track record of writing and/or journalism projects.
- Ability to adapt and navigate through the ever-changing digital space.
- Knowledge and enthusiasm for social media.
- Passion for and prior experience in journalism, editorial, technical writing, youth engagement, communications, education, and/or sustainability.
- Knowledge of sustainable development and passion for the mission of Global Schools, including the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on climate change.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage several workflows simultaneously; ability to work autonomously, take initiatives, problem-solve, and work proactively.
- Ability to motivate and mobilize others across various regions, cultures and work streams behind a global mission.
- Strong computer skills and experience working with various communications and management software (i.e. Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Youtube, WhatsApp, Buffer, Google Suite, X, Canva, etc).
- Ability to commit at least 10 hours per week to this role with room for flexibility.

CONDITIONS
- Location: This position will be remote.
- Hours: This position requires at least 10 hours per week.
- Training: The candidate is required to complete all online induction courses and complete the Global Schools onboarding process.
- Supervision: This position is supervised by the Project Lead, Communications, of Global Schools, under the overall guidance of the Director, Global Schools.
- Compensation: This position is voluntary (Unpaid).
- Duration of Position: January 2025 - December 2025. This position requires a minimum commitment of 12 months, with a 3-month probation period.
