Project Officer (Operations), SDG Students Program

Duties & Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Project Officer include:

  1. General Administration & Upkeep
    • Managing the administration of online platforms including GDrive, Podio, and MailChimp, etc.
    • Minuting and circulating the minutes of relevant internal team/ external stakeholder meetings
    • Ensuring that databases and mailing lists are kept up to date, including the SDG Hub Member Masterlist, etc.
  2. Processes
    • Assisting with the Hub Member registration, onboarding and offboarding process
    • Assisting with the SDG Coordinator applications and screening
  3. Internal Communications
    • Serving as the Networks Team’s liaison to the Operations Team
  4. Additional Responsibilities:
    • All Project Officers in the SDG Students Program Team may be called upon throughout the year to assist with the following duties:
      1. Assessment and review of prospective SDG Coordinators (twice yearly)
      2. Assist in partnership discussions with relevant external stakeholders
      3. Support SDG Coordinators and activities related to SDG Student Hubs

Please note: As a virtual network, it is IMPORTANT for Project Officers to communicate effectively with their Project Leader and report back consistently. In a network, which operates across several time zones, reporting and communicating proactively is crucial.


PRIMARY Criteria

At time of applying for this role:

  • Candidate MUST have a great interest in sustainable development, be passionate about the mission of the SDSN, including the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on climate change.
  • Candidate MUST make themselves available for regular meetings (weekly) with their Deputy Project Leader and other stakeholders - including after-hours conference calls.
  • Candidate MUST possess an excellent command of the English language, including writing, speaking and listening.
  • Candidate MUST be willing to travel occasionally (domestically and internationally).
  • Candidate MUST demonstrate that they have the time and resources to commit to this role – candidates with too many overlapping commitments will be exempt from running for this position.
  • Candidate MUST have some professional or volunteer work experience with administration, social media engagement, design, communications strategies and research/writing.
  • Candidate MUST be able to commit at least 5-8 hours per week for this role.
  • Candidate MUST be aged between 18-30 in order to be eligible for this role (exceptions may apply).
  • Candidate MUST be a proven team player with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to coordinate and manage workload across several projects/teams.
  • Candidate MUST have excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Candidate MUST have some experience working with various communications and management software, such as Google Suite, Excel, Dropbox, WhatsApp, Facebook, etc, and be able to adapt to new tools, including Trello, Podio, Squarespace, Breezy, Northpass, Bamboo, Mighty Networks, etc.
  • Candidate MUST demonstrate their ability to communicate effectively and report consistently. In a network, which operates across several time zones, reporting and communicating proactively is crucial.
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in management, business, operations, sustainability, political science, international relations, or a related field is a plus.
  • Language skills are assets.


Total Weekly Hours:

  • 5-8 hours per week (minimum)


  • Duration of Position: The first term is 12 months in total, with a 2 months trial period at the beginning. However, subject to review of work performance, this position may be extended on a 12 month basis.
  • Reporting: This position reports to the Project Leader and Deputy Project Leader (Administration) of the SDG Students Program.
  • Payment: Voluntary
  • Travel: This position may require some domestic and/or international travel.
  • Training: All Project Officers are required to complete all SDSN Youth online induction courses, including team training.
