The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) has been operating since 2012 under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General. SDSN mobilizes global scientific and technological expertise to promote practical solutions for sustainable development, including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement.

The SDSN Youth is an initiative of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). It was launched in 2015 with a mission to empower youth globally to create sustainable development solutions.

The Membership Program’s Team

The Membership Program, which is part of the Global Networks, is a youth-led and youth-focused network of +780 member organizations based in more than 127 different countries that encourages engagement and collaboration on sustainability issues at a local and global level. As part of the SDSN Youth’s Global Networks, it gives member organizations access to research, business development resources, and events, exposing them to a community of global experts, business leaders, and peers.

Through networking and collaboration, member organizations are able to connect with their peers at an international level and benefit from peer-to-peer learning.

The program prioritizes education and resources to drive change towards a sustainable future through high-level business-oriented skills such as fundraising, project management, and leadership.


We’re looking for a new Operations Project Officer who will help grow and support our global community of youth-focused organizations (Member Organizations). This role will help in the management of Member Organizations and also strategize the operation of the program. You will be exposed to hundreds of passionate young people running initiatives and outreach in their local communities. This position will be great for someone who loves working with people and wants to learn about different cultures.

This role reports to and works closely with the Deputy Project Lead to ensure the program data is up to date, problem solve and best support our Membership Program ( directly with:

  • Network Coordinators
  • Regional Focal Points
  • Other Project Leads


  • Membership Operations

  • Define the guidelines & procedures for onboarding and offboarding member organizations & make sure they comply with the process
  • Support the onboarding of new Member Organizations into the global community
  • Participate in the elaboration of the Team’s annual report
  • Develop KPIs to track progress and strategy
  • Support the implementation of capacity building activities for MOs
  • Work with community engagement PO

  • Strategy development

  • Work with Capacity Building PO to strategize and strengthen the operations of member organizations
  • Liaison with Operations and Strategy PO Networks to develop best operation practices

  • Admin

  • Update the membership database & keep track of the contact information of partner organizations
  • Review of member organizations applications on a yearly basis
  • Assist with the implementation of residency program for MOs

Please note: As a virtual network, it is IMPORTANT for Project Officers to communicate effectively with their Project Leader and report back consistently. In a network, which operates across several time zones, reporting and communicating proactively is crucial.

Job Qualifications

The Operations Project Officer will be someone who:

  • is organized, driven and can work autonomously,
  • enjoys categorizing
  • has impeccable communication skills,

Minimum qualifications:

  • Have experience managing stakeholders/partners.
  • Have some professional or volunteer work experience in a team.
  • Have excellent organizational skills.
  • Be a proven team player with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to coordinate and manage workload
  • Demonstrate their ability to communicate effectively and report consistently. In a network, which operates across several time zones, reporting and communicating proactively is crucial.
  • Have experience with mailchimp and database management software for mass email and communication
  • Be responsive and able to manage regular communication with the team - including after-hours conference calls, as the network spans 10 different time zones.

Preferred qualifications:

  • The candidate has experience in database management
  • The candidate has experience using Excel/Google sheets.
  • Excellent command of the English language, including writing, speaking and listening.


Total Weekly Hours:

  • Less than 5 hours per week


  • Duration of Position: The first term is 12 months in total, with a 2 months trial period at the beginning. However, subject to review of work performance, this position may be extended on a 12-month basis.
  • Reporting: This position reports to the Head of Operations and the Stream Lead of the Youth Membership Program.
  • Compensation: Voluntary
  • Training: All Project Officers are required to complete all SDSN Youth online induction courses, including team training.
