The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) has been operating since 2012 under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General. SDSN mobilizes global scientific and technological expertise to promote practical solutions for sustainable development, including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement.

The SDSN Youth is an initiative of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). It was launched in 2015 with a mission to empower youth globally to create sustainable development solutions.

At SDSN Youth, we empower young people to take meaningful action on the Sustainable Development Goals. By joining our global team, you will be working with a diverse and exceptional group of individuals with a variety of cultural, religious and political backgrounds, committed to sustainable development.

The Membership Program

The Membership Program, which is part of the Global Networks Team, is a youth-led and youth-focused network of +780 member organizations, based in more than 127 different countries, that encourages engagement and collaboration on sustainability issues. It gives member organizations access to research, business development resources, and events, exposing them to a community of global experts, business leaders, and peers.

By empowering youth-led and youth-focused organizations, the program accelerates solutions towards sustainable development goals.

Through networking and collaboration, member organizations are able to connect with their peers at an international level and benefit from peer-to-peer learning.

The program prioritizes education and resources to drive change towards a sustainable future through high-level business-oriented skills such as fundraising, project management, and leadership.

Role

The Capacity Building Project Officer role will work closely with the team members of the Membership Program (Deputy Project Lead and Project Officers), with possible collaboration with the Network Coordinators, to advance the capacity and operation of the Membership Program.

Some examples of what you may be involved in:

  • Provide technical input for capacity enhancement of the Membership Program
  • Support content creation for various activities (campaigns, webinars, events etc),
  • Develop L&D workshops for the Member Organizations,



Please note: As a virtual network, it is IMPORTANT for the Coordinator to communicate effectively with their Deputy Project Leader and report back consistently. In a network, which operates across several time zones, reporting and communicating proactively is crucial.

Responsibilities

  • Capacity Building

  • Work closely with the Member Organizations of the program to better understand their needs in order to develop and implement the Capacity Building agenda of training.
  • Work closely with the Partnerships and Events Project Officer to build fundraise and establish collaborations with experts, UN agencies and institutions for the implementation of the Capacity Building agenda
  • Support the planning and implementation of UN SDSN Youth Members Impact Residency program
  • To propose good practices, administrative and management decisions that have the objective to increase the efficiency of the member organizations
  • Directly implement campaign activities
  • Monitor KPIs of Member Organizations

  • Content Development

  • Support content creation for various activities (campaigns, webinars, events etc),
  • Support the development of L&D workshops for the Member Organizations
  • Prepare a capacity building strategy for the Membership Program
  • Enrich the resource pool for Member Organizations
  • Liaison with communication PO

  • Admin

  • Provide technical input for capacity enhancement of the Membership Program

  • Develop campaigns, content, and promotional digital assets (events, workshops, webinars etc.) of the program

Job Qualifications

The Project Officer, Capacity Building (Membership Program) will be someone who has experience in program management, business strategy, web maintenance and customer service. They will be someone who is responsive, possesses organizational, communication and problem-solving skills while working in a team in order to maximize SDSN Youth’s internal performance.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Candidate has volunteer or work experience, managing teams, or in a role that requires stakeholder management.
  • Candidate has experience in business strategy.
  • Candidate has excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Candidate is a proven team player with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to coordinate and manage workload across several projects/teams.
  • Candidate can demonstrate their ability to communicate effectively and report consistently. In a network, which operates across several time zones, reporting and communicating proactively is crucial.
  • Candidate is responsive and able to manage regular communication with the team - including after-hours conference calls, as the network spans 10 different time zones.
  • Candidate is aged between 18-30 in order to be eligible for this role (exceptions may apply).





Commitment

Total Weekly Hours:

  • 5+ hours per week (minimum)



Conditions

  • Duration of Position: The first term is 12 months in total, with a 2 months trial period in the beginning. However, subject to review of work performance, this position may be extended on a 12-month basis.
  • Reporting: This position reports to the Project Lead of the Membership Program Team.
  • Compensation: Voluntary

Training: All Project Officers are required to complete all SDSN Youth online induction courses, including team training.
